5 week old puppies raised and weaned on raw |
The video is of 5 week old puppies from our A - litter eating raw chicken from the bone ...Please note that this is a raw chicken and not cooked. Careful supervision must be taken when feeding dogs from raw bone and they must never be fed cooked chicken on the bone.
We recommend following the BARF Diet (Bones and Raw Food) when feeding raw diet to your animals. We loosely follow the 2% of body weight rule for daily intake. The amount of food is adjusted according to the level of exercise the dog receives and by how the dog looks. More exercise will require a little more food. It also depends on how much fat is in the food. We like to see a good amount of fat in the food as it is an excellent energy source...especially for the athletic dog. A dog should never be allowed to get fat. A working dog or any dog for that matter should show a nice outline of the rib cage. You don't want to see all the ribs sticking out. For a working dog we like the last two ribs closest to the hind legs to be visible. Weight can easily be adjusted on a raw food diet. Food adjustments will be noticable in just a matter of a days to a week. Finally our staple for the raw food diet is chicken. However we do hunt for the best prices on a variety of meats on the bone including beef back ribs. Our dogs are also supplemented with Organ Meats, Vegetables and fruit. We do not mash or cook the vegetables. We have found that packaged frozen green beans are the best digested whole raw vegetable and the most economical when on sale. Basically if they like it and are able to digest it then we feed it.We suggest experimenting with raw to determine what works best for your dogs. You'll also find a variety of commercial raw food diets on the market as well as raw food co-ops in your area. Happy Feeding and thank you for visiting. |
